Mihajlovic in Bratunac: The policy of President Vucic and the Serbian government is to connect the region

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic PhD, visited Bratunac today and together with the Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojin Mitrovic, visited  bridge Bratoljub and signed the Agreement on the construction of a joint border crossing, as well as the Agreement on maintenance and reconstruction of interstate bridges between Serbia and B&H. The signing was also attended by the Ambassador of Serbia to B&H, Aleksandar Djordjevic.

On this occasion, Mihajlovic reminded that the bridge was completed in 2017 and that she expects that the works on the construction of the joint border crossing of the first category will be completed by March next year.

"That is why these works are the most important now. To enable peoples to connect, because regional connection is the most important condition for the development of our countries, and that is the policy of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, and our government. We have signed two important agreements. Serbia has provided 15 million euros in the budget for the maintenance of six bridges, while the other five will be maintained by B&H. "Bridges separated us in the past, and today they connect us," she said.

Deputy Prime Minister also reminded of other important infrastructure projects that Serbia is implementing in order to connect with B&H and the region.

"The value of the projects that connect us with B&H is 1.7 billion euros. We are building the highway Sremska Raca - Kuzmin, from there we will further reconstruct the road to Bjeljina. Then we build a highway and a fast road Ruma-Sabac-Loznica. We will also build the Slijepcevici-Badovinci road. We are trying to be as close as possible in merging our two countries. We will also jointly look for ways to provide a railway connection between Belgrade and Sarajevo, which is equally important. "Because of all that, we can expect the growth of trade and services, as well as better living conditions for our citizens," she said.

Minister Mitrovic said that the signing of these two agreements is a very important moment for the Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

"Bridge Bratoljub was completed in 2017, but we waited until December 2019 in order to harmonize the political positions of the three nations." The construction of the new border crossing Bratunac will additionally connect the two countries and speed up the traffic of goods and passengers, to the satisfaction of all of us. Thanks to Serbia and President Vucic for building bridge Bratoljub. The second agreement is also important, we have made a joint decision on the maintenance of 11 bridges. These are important projects for both countries, for the development of this area and the economy and the improvement of the lives of citizens," said Mitrovic.

Aleksandar Djordjevic stated that, as the ambassador of Serbia, he is pleased to hand over Bratoljub bridge to the people in this area for use.

"I hope that the other works will be completed by March next year. Bridges on Drina have always been the source of life for two nations. And Serbia, as the most populous country in the Balkans, has an obligation to build good relations and ties with everyone," said Djordjevic.
