Mihajlovic with "Russian Railways" : We are continuing the reconstruction of railway Bar

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, prof. Zorana Mihajlovic PhD, met today with the First Deputy General Director of "Russian Railways" Sergei Pavlov and talked with him about current and future infrastructure projects in the railway sector. After the meeting, Mihajlovic, Pavlov and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Serbia, Aleksandar Bocan-Harchenko, attended the signing of the contract for the preparation of project-technical documentation for the reconstruction and modernization of the bar railway on the section Valjevo - Vrbnica - state border with Montenegro.

On this occasion, Mihajlovic expressed satisfaction with the continuation of cooperation with one of the world's best companies, which with its way of working, dynamics and quality on the most important and demanding project of modernization of  Belgrade-Budapest railway confirms that it will successfully respond to this task.

"Serbia is determined to invest in infrastructure, especially in the railway, which is just as important as the road for the development of our country." We will also build a high-speed railway Belgrade-Nis, as well as Nis-Presevo, we will reconstruct regional railways. I also believe that next year we will start the construction of the new modern dispatch center that we need, considering all the investments in the railway. "The reconstruction of railway Bar is difficult and demanding, it has 250 tunnels and more than 230 bridges, but I believe that "Russian Railways" will respond to this task and that we will start works in 2022," she said.

Mihajlovic added that the meeting discussed the training of our students and engineers in Russia, and the possibilities to provide them with work in the railway sector when they return to Serbia.

Sergei Pavlov said that "Russian Railways", as one of the world's largest companies, together with the Government of Serbia, will work on the further development of Serbian Railways.

"We were given the task to complete the design of this section of railway Bar next year and to start the works in 2022. It is a complex task, but our company will respond to the task of the Government of Serbia. All previous projects are being done in accordance with the dynamics, regardless of the conditions of the pandemic. None of that would happen if we did not have the support of our partners, that is, the Government of Serbia. Thanks to the Deputy Prime Minister for that, "Pavlov said.

Ambassador Bocan-Harchenko pointed out that the joint projects that "Russian Railways" in Serbia are implementing are under the auspices of two presidents - Aleksandar Vucic and Vladimir Putin.

"These projects are part of the infrastructural development of Serbia and an inalienable part of the development of Southeastern Europe in terms of transport. Today's meeting, as well as each with the Deputy Prime Minister, was fruitful. I express my gratitude to the Serbian side for the cooperation and especially to Deputy Prime Minister Mihajlovic, who is committed to the development of our bilateral cooperation and who provides us with support in the realization of projects. "I believe that everything will be completed on time," he said.
