The significance of the project: 

A project of exceptional strategic importance since it represents:

  • Part of the main traffic trasferal of the Republic of Serbia and directly connects three out of five largest cities in the Republic of Serbia.
  • Near half of the length of the Pan-European Corridor X b Unique European Rail Networks (TEN-T) on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.
  • A significant segment of the southern arm of the 21st Century Silk Road connecting the maritime-container center of the People's Republic of China to Piraeus and the port of the Far East of Asia, with the countries of South-Eastern, Central and Eastern Europe.
  • A significant section of the Unified European Railway Network (TEN-T) to Istanbul as a connection point between the Euro-Asian and Asian networks of the Asian-European Express Railway Line.
  • The first trilateral project of cooperation between China and CIES (1 + 16) in the field of transport infrastructure that entered the realization process.
Status of the project: 

Adopted the Decision on the Special Purpose Plan and concluded a contract on its development between the Railways of Serbia and the CIP Traffic Institute, Belgrade. Ministry-CIP-Railways of Serbia Contract was signed for the Feasibility Study and the Preliminary Design Project with the Feasibility Study for the Belgrade-Stara Pazova section. Feasibility Study for the Project of both sections adopted on 16.7.2015 in Budapest at the meeting of the trilateral working group of governments. (Hungary, PR of China, Republic of Serbia)

Signed on 11/24/2015. General contract for the Railway Project on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. This Agreement defines the future business model, potential Investor, Financier and Contractor and sets the deadlines for completion of the planning and technical documentation and the commencement of works. The agreement envisages that the Commercial Negotiations will be completed by 30.9.2016. and within 30 days to definitively establish a Credit Agreement. The conclusion of the Commercial Agreement shall terminate the validity of the General Agreement. The commercial contract shall enter into force on the day of the entry into force of the Credit Agreement, if it is agreed upon and entered into force within the agreed time limit.

Start of the project: 

The project officially commenced on December 25, 2015 in Suzhou, by signing documents between PR of China, R. Serbia, ie People's Republic of China and Hungary, in which the principles and models of joint cooperation are defined and the sequence of further activities is determined.

Completion of the project: 

Within 24 months from the completion and adoption of the planning and technical documentation and the issuance of the construction permit.

Project description: 

As part of the Modernization and Rehabilitation Project of the Hungarian-Serbian Railway Connection, in the Republic of Serbia, the modernization of the existing and the construction of the second track without stopping traffic, two sections: Belgrade (station Centar) - Stara Pazova 34.5 km and Novi Sad - State border (Kelebija) 107.4 km, a total of 141.9 km, stays for mixed - passenger and freight traffic, electrified and capable of speeds up to 200 km / h without crossing at level with other roads.


Designing, constructing and equipping the railway line in accordance with the standards laid down in the Law on Railway Traffic Safety and Interoperability, which, in all its features, will satisfy the conditions and standards for the construction and equippment of the lines of the main European corridors and interoperability in the Single European Railway Network TEN-T.
