The significance of the project:
The Project is of exceptional strategic relevance in view of the fact that it is a part of the main transversal railway of the Republic of Serbia and that it directly connects three of the five largest cities in Serbia. This section also makes up almost half of the length of the Pan-European Corridor Xb and is a part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. It is an important segment of the southern arm of the 21st century Maritime Silk Road, which connects China’s container port in Piraeus and ports of the Far East with South-Eastern European, Central European and Eastern European countries. This is the first trilateral cooperation project between China and CEEC (1+16) concerning transport infrastructure which has entered the implementation process.
Status of the project:
Railway section Belgrade Centre Station – Stara Pazova
Percentage of physical realization on 22 May 2021: 54.47%
Percentage of financial realization on 22 May 2021: 55.90%
Works on the substructure and superstructure on the section from Belgrade Centre Station to Stara Pazova, on the right track, are underway.
Railway section Novi Sad – Subotica
The Construction Permit Design is in development and is to be completed by June 2021, which will be followed by execution of all other activities necessary for the commencement of works.

Component 1: 426,375,539.64 USD
Component 2: 1,162,810,000.00 USD
Start of the project:
For the railway section Belgrade Centre Station – Stara Pazova, the commencement date is to be in early June 2018.
For the section Novi Sad – Subotica – state border, the commencement date is to be in September 2021.
Completion of the project:
For the railway section Belgrade Centre Station – Stara Pazova, the completion date is to be in September 2021.
For the section Novi Sad – Subotica – state border, the completion date is to be in April 2024.
Source of finance:
Pursuant to the Commercial Agreement for the section Belgrade Centre Station – Stara Pazova, the total value is 367,440,587.64 USD and, in accordance with the Loan Agreement for a loan of the Chinese Export-Import Bank, credit funds are in the amount of 297,638,159.00 USD (85% of the total value of the Project).
Pursuant to the Commercial Agreement for the section Novi Sad – Subotica, the total value is 1,162,810,000.00 USD and, in accordance with the Loan Agreement for a loan of the Chinese Export-Import Bank, credit funds are in the amount of 988,388,500.00 USD (85% of the total value of the Project), and the amount of funds of the Republic of Serbia is 174,421,500.00 RSD (15% of the total value of the Project).
Project description:
Component 1: The Hungarian - Serbian Railway Project concerns reconstruction and modernisation of the existing track of a single-track railway and construction of a second track of the railway for mixed passenger and freight transportation and speeds up to 200 km/h on the railway Belgrade - Novi Sad - Subotica - state border (Кelebija) in accordance with the target modernisation of the entire Belgrade - Budapest railway (Pan-European Corridor Xb). The railway has three characteristic sections in the Republic of Serbia, one of which is the section Belgrade Centre Station - Stara Pazova (34.5 km).
Component 2: The Hungarian - Serbian Railway Project concerns reconstruction and modernisation of the existing track of a single-track railway and construction of a second track of the railway for mixed passenger and freight transportation and speeds up to 200 km/h on the railway Belgrade - Novi Sad - Subotica - state border (Кelebija) in accordance with the target modernisation of the entire Belgrade - Budapest railway (Pan-European Corridor Xb). The railway has three characteristic sections in the Republic of Serbia, one of which is the section Novi Sad - Subotica – state border (108.1 km).
