This project plays a key role in the city’s road network by linking one of Belgrade’s busiest and highest-capacity urban roads with the motorway bypass and the Vinogradska Street area. It will establish the shortest route between the central part of New Belgrade and the western motorway “Miloš Veliki,” significantly improving overall traffic connectivity. A particularly important aspect of the project is the connection of the wider Vinogradska area to Belgrade’s sewerage system through newly constructed sewer collectors, thereby enabling a long-term solution to a long-standing infrastructure challenge.
In addition, the project contributes to the development of essential infrastructure required for the successful organization and delivery of the international specialized exhibition EXPO 2027.

The extension of Jurija Gagarina Street is designed as a dual carriageway with a constant width of 10.5 m per carriageway, featuring three traffic lanes in each direction. The road includes a central median 14.0 m wide, extending along a total length of approximately 1,550 m. A section of the central median accommodates a landscaped tram corridor with a double-track tram line, 7.5 m in width, extending over a length of approximately 1,000 m. Along both sides of the carriageway, a 2.0 m wide landscaped green verge is planned, providing a visual and functional buffer between traffic and adjacent pedestrian areas. On the right-hand side of the roadway (in the direction from the state road toward the existing Jurija Gagarina Street), a two-way bicycle path with a width of 2.5 m is planned between the green verge and the sidewalk. Sidewalks with a uniform width of 2.0 m are provided on both sides of the road as part of the standard cross-section. The project also includes the construction of dedicated tram and bus turning loops adjacent to the roadway.
The project also encompasses several secondary roads in the Jurija Gagarina Street area, designed to connect key infrastructure elements such as Nova 14, Nova 15, and Nova 16. These roads feature 7 m wide carriageways with 2.5 m sidewalks on both sides, extending over a total length of 523 m. A tram and bus turning facility is planned adjacent to the roadway, covering approximately 2.75 hectares. The facility will enable trams to circulate and terminate, as well as accommodate a larger number of bus lines, including electric buses. The project also includes a tram rectifier station with an associated transformer substation, and two sewage pumping stations.
In addition to the roadway and its supporting infrastructure, a new wastewater pipeline is being constructed, with a minimum diameter of 500 mm and a total length of approximately 530 m. The pipeline will run along Jurija Gagarina Street, from Dr. Ivana Ribara Street to the existing collector 70/125 near Dušana Vukasovića Street.
